How to Become a Successful Full-Time Gaming Streamer

How to Become a Successful Full-Time Gaming Streamer

April 12, 2022

So you have decided that it is time to turn that gaming hobby of yours into a professional lifestyle. And, of course, starting some new venture can be stressful or scary, but fear no more!

We’ve searched far and wide on the Internet in order to learn the best hacks from the Streaming PROs. These pieces of knowledge will prove to be really valuable if you’ve set your mind into becoming a full-time Gaming Streamer. Ready?

BE AUTHENTIC

Copying others won't get you very far and fakes are easily spotted online. The best thing you can do is find your own place, voice and style among the gaming scene. While it's a good idea to play some popular titles, don't feel forced to play stuff you don't fully enjoy. Make sure you're kind to your audience and naturally share with them your passions and likes, it'll make it easier to connect and build a community around your content.

LOOK FOR ENGAGEMENT

If you have already built an audience on social media, don't forget to use that to your advantage. You need to promote yourself and your "brand" beyond your streamings, and social media is a perfect tool for that. You can also find mutuals, friends, allies and collaborators that can help you expand the reach of the things you're doing. And as an extra idea: how about inviting some of your viewers to a multiplayer session?

FIND THE BALANCE

Sometimes, when we're doing something we're passionate about, we forget to step aside for a moment and get some fresh air. Although it is key to see your streaming activities as a job, it's also important to have a healthy life balance. Maintain and nurture your real-life social interactions and make some time to take care of yourself in order to avoid burning out or letting the pressure get over you.

BE CONSISTENT

Not only should you work to make your content recognizable across platforms by defining a style, you have to consider how to turn your streams into an event for your followers. Plan ahead and schedule your sessions at specific times or dates, so everyone knows when and where to expect you. On the other hand, if you want to experiment with something new, try to ease your viewership into it by going slowly at first and check their reactions. Don’t forget to invest in some good equipment and always be prepared for trouble as technology is never exempt from failure.

DON'T LET NUMBERS BECOME EVERYTHING

This might be the hardest part of it all, as we are all after the metrics to know how successful something can be on the internet. However, if you're ONLY paying attention to the number of likes, followers, viewers or comments, you may lose track of the really important element: your content. Content is king, so you should use the numbers as a tool to understand what is actually working and build upon it, and also to adjust or eliminate those elements that aren't working.

HAVE FUN!

Whatever reason you may have for trying to become a full-time gaming streamer, don't forget that it should be a fun experience since it's all about entertainment. Nobody enjoys watching or listening to someone who's obviously not having fun. Sure, you'll have moments when things might stall, but keep a positive attitude so you can work around those bumps. Even though you'll be working through tech and media, always remember the fact that you're doing this for other people and positive emotions, like passion and enjoyment, will be your best assets.

We can’t stress enough the part in which you have to have fun with this adventure. There’s no rush, so you should take your own pace and enjoy the ride.
