The Most Anticipated Comic Book Movies of 2022

Prepare the popcorn. Lots and lots of popcorn because the rest of 2022 has a lot to offer, especially when we talk about comic book movies.

From some returning characters to others that will have their first rodeo at the cinemas, these are the releases that we've marked in our calendars. Make sure to mark them on yours too.

MORBIUS

• Dir.: Daniel Espinosa
• Release Date: April 1
• The Sony Spider-Verse expands with Jared Leto's take on the popular Michael Morbius. Will it have a similar fate to his Joker or will it grow successfully beyond a single movie? We're about to find out!

DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS

• Dir.: Sam Raimi
• Release Date: May 6
• Benedict Cumberbatch's Dr. Strange teams up with Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch for another round in the ever growing multiverse of Marvel in the big screen. Director Sam Raimi promises this movie will smell of horror and that's a novelty for the MCU.

THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER

• Dir.: Taika Waititi
• Release Date: July 8
• Following the visually stunning 'Thor: Ragnarok', this entry will see Natalie Portman return to the franchise as Jane Foster but also as the first woman in the MCU to wield the power of Thor. Christian Bale will also star as the villain Gorr the God Butcher.

DC LEAGUE OF SUPER-PETS

• Dir.: Jared Stern & Sam Levine
• Release Date: July 29
• More in line with Warner's animated ventures like 'Scoob!', this movie pulls away from the more mature films that filled the DC animated slate in recent years. Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart re-team up after proving their chemistry in the 'Jumanji' films, and Keanu Reeves joins them as a very peculiar Batman.

SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE - PART ONE

• Dir.: Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers & Justin K. Thompson
• Release Date: October 7
• Another dose of Spider-Man and other Spider-People, albeit in an animated film that plays by its own rules and on its own terms. The previous movie grabbed everyone by surprise and even grabbed an Academy Award as well, and this one is just the first half of an adventure that will conclude in 2023. 

BLACK ADAM

• Dir.: Jaume Collet-Serra
• Release Date: October 21
• One of DC's big bets for this year is this movie starring Dwayne Johnson, whose charisma can turn any film into a cash-maker at the box office. Fans are already excited by the promise of one spectacular film but, will it deliver?

BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER

• Dir.: Ryan Coogler
• Release Date: November 11
• After the untimely passing of Chadwick Boseman, the world knows little to nothing about how this sequel will portray the relay of the hero's identity. And there's also the challenge of surpassing the cultural impact of the first part.

SHAZAM! FURY OF THE GODS

• Dir.: David F. Sandberg
• Release Date: December 16
• The whole world was pleasantly surprised when the Shazam! movie arrived in cinemas back in 2019. For the next installment in this franchise Zachary Levi will measure against the likes of Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu in an adventure "out of this world".
